AKITSA/ASH POOL split-LP

AKITSA / ASH POOL - RIPPED FROM DEATH, FORCED TO LIVE AND DIE AGAIN - LP akitsa-ash pool split2

AKITSA/ASH POOL “Arraché à la mort, forcé à vivre et mourir à nouveau – Ripped From Death, Forced To Live, And Die Again” split-LP (Tour De Garde/Hospital Productions) 40€

First of all, we know that the price is hard to swallow, this is due to the excruciating increase of the US postal rates.

I became a big AKITSA fan since “Au Crepuscule De L’Esperance” so I’ve been wildly anticipating this, especially after their excellent recent 7″EP.

These 5 new tracks are in the same veins that “Au Crepuscule…”, further pursuing the transformation of Akitsa from a black metal band into something more unique…

The variety of their post-Crepuscule style is even more evident in this recording. Two of the tracks are instrumental, including “Tour De Garde”, appropriately named after their own label, a fantastic epic tune, choke full of eerie, timeless feeling.

In the three remaining tracks with vokills, the heavy metal element is very strong, often combined with what sounds like punk/no-wave influences. “Ne Perdez Jamais Espoir” is my favorite tune of the lot, sung all the way like “Loyauté” from “Au Crepuscule…”.

On the other side we have Akitsa’s comrades, Ash Pool, who are also a case apart in modern black metal with their no-school approach. If you consider individually the riffs and different parts, they are not of an unheard originality. Put together, they come together in a crushing, hateful way which will be irresistible to most BM fans.

They remind me a lot on this recording one of my favorite BM bands, Grand Belial’s Key. Like them, one of their strongest points are the lyrics. They are unlike anything I’ve read so far, anti-christian but with an approach that is at the same time morbid, psychedelic and spacy!

The packaging and overall aura of this record is steeped into underground darkness and hate, making it so far for me the split of the year..
